Immobilization of an Iridium(I)-NHC-Phosphine Catalyst for Hydrogenation Reactions under Batch and Flow Conditions

Na2[Ir(cod)(emim)(mtppts)] (1) with high catalytic activity in various organic- and aqueous-phase hydrogenation reactions was immobilized on several types of commercially available ion-exchange supports. The resulting heterogeneous catalyst investigated batch an H-Cube flow reactor the phenylacetylene, diphenylacetylene, 1-hexyne, benzylideneacetone. Under proper conditions, highly selective alkynes to alkenes, demonstrated excellent selectivity C=C over C=O hydrogenation; furthermore, it displayed remarkable stability. Activity 1 levulinic acid γ-valerolactone also assessed.

An immobilised iridium hydrogen transfer catalyst has been developed for use in flow based processing by incorporation of a ligand into a porous polymeric monolithic flow reactor. The monolithic construct has been used for several redox reductions demonstrating excellent recyclability, good turnover numbers and high chemical stability giving negligible metal leaching over extended periods of use.
